Shin Shusou Doven Wolf
First off, let me apologize for the quality of the images of this kit. I shot this using my camera's auto setting and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Also, my monitors are not cooperating with me and I am having a hard time calibrating them both so the images, on top of the bad shots I took, weren't adjusted well. So yeah, sorry :)
This kit was a Christmas gift from my sister's family last 2012. I got around to finishing it around the first quarter of 2013 but was not able to shoot it then because of my schedule. The kit was primed with Bosny Primers and hand painted with Reeves Acrylics.
I did not like how my finish for this kit turned out. Apparently, orange and yellow artist acrylic paints tend to be translucent and as such needed so much more paint applications than other colors. Also, I tried using this really really cheap brush that I had lying around instead of going out to get some better brushes from Deovir. You can see that because of this there are a ton of brush strokes here and there and some of the details got obscured by the thickness of my paint application.
Because of my experieces with this kit I've switched to lacquer paints for now. As much as I enjoy hand painting my kits I also want to be able to paint yellows and oranges without having to spend hours on it just to make the paint applications opaque. I also want to be able to work faster on my kits because my collection has grown quite a bit again this year and if I keep on taking my time with my builds I don't think I'll be able to enjoy the hobby as much because I want to see my kits painted.
Switching to acrylic has made painting so much faster but more hazardous since I paint in my studio/bedroom. I'm planning on getting or making a better paint booth as the one that I have right now isn't adequate. I'll also start working on a tutorial on how I build just to be able to share with you guys my work flow when building.
In other news: I'm really excited with the new HG line coming out, especially with the revamped Turn A that I just might get. I've also been amassing quite a number of Daban/Gao Gao model kits to practice on, mostly the MG Endless Waltz kits. I also just finished watching episode 18 of Gundam Build Fighters and I must say that I like the cheesiness of it all and that little kid in me wishes that I could take my kits there and compete as well :)
