Mechanical Chain Base

I got this mechanical chain base more than a year ago but only got around to painting it about the middle of the year. I love the idea of having a hangar for my 1/144s because it serves as a nice backdrop for a photo shoot and it somewhat fills in this craving of mine to make an actual diorama with my kits.

I primed this with Bosny Primer Gray, it cost Php90.00  or around $2 here in the Philippines and it's been my primer of choice for more than 3 years and it works really really well with both hand-brushing and spray painting.

I weathered this one using cheap artist's oil paints and added the panel lines using a Gundam marker. The decals I got from a Bandai Decal Sheet that a friend gave me. Weathering didn't make much time as I just aimed to add color variations and to just make the whole thing grimy.

I love this small truck think, its very basic but adds a nice focal point to the base.

And here it is with my 1/144 Gaia that I finished last month. I, hopefully, will be able to shoot this during the weekend.

So what's up? I've switched back to using lacquer paints applied with a mini spray gun or an airbrush during my last build which was an MG Deathschyte. I have realized that it is way faster than hand brushing (obviously) and that I can tolerate the fumes once I have added a make shift spray booth to my exhaust fan to keep the paint particles contained. I dread masking, but it looks like it will be the only way to go for me if I really want to build more kits on top of the huge workload that I am currently handling (thank God!).

Gundam Build Fighters is turning out quite nice. I know, its primarily for kids, but the art is well drawn and I like how it pokes fun on Gunpla fanatics. The mechs are really really nice and I am looking forward to seeing how the Kamphfer Amazing fares agains the Build MKII and the other awesome builds. And it's really refreshing in the sense that, at least for me, it echoes how we builders see our kits and it reminds me of how fun this hobby really is and how thankful I am that my current work allows me to spend a substantial amount of time daily with my kits.

Until the next update guys, cheers!

  1. Hey man also from the PH. Do you know of any store that sells these chain bases? I was only lucky to find one in Greenhills
