SD Zeong

Image
Quoting from Gundam.wikia.com: The MSN-02 Zeong is a prototype mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon at A Baoa Qu space fortress during the One Year War of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam. The Zeong was built especially for Newtype pilots and was first piloted by the "Red Comet" Char Aznable. The final product of the MS-16X "Bishop Plan", the Zeong was a mobile suit in the fact that it featured a roughly humanoid shape. However, it lacked legs, which first surprised its pilot. Although it was only 80% complete, it didn't matter in gravity-lacking space, since the legs aided in the AMBAC System. Because of that factor, it was at 100% combat capacity when first used. The Zeong was the first mobile suit to use Psycommu system. This let it effectively use its wire-guided, remote-controlled arms, each built with 5-mega particle gun fingers. Two additional beam guns were built into the torso. Lastly, there was ...

SD Zeong Update

Image
Here's a quick update on the SD Zeong that I posted a couple of weeks ago. From the image here we can see that the kit has been primed. I used a local primer from my neighborhood paint supply called Sphero Primer Surfacer which is a lacquer primer that had to be applied with an air brush, or in my case, a mini spray gun. Priming gives me an opportunity to check for errors that would have been hard to detect with the kit in its molded colors, what with all the work done in. Priming also would help me a lot in the next stage for this kit which is hand brushing using Reeves Acrylics. The images above show the kit in its flat painted state. Notice that there are brush strikes on some of the parts. I opted not to go for a really clean paint application at this stage since I planned to weather the kit heavily. To be honest, this stage took the longest because the yellow paint that I used was on the thin side and it took a lot of coats to get an opaque look. Next tim...

1/144 Turn X Part 2

Image
Here's part 2 of the Turn X shoot: I bought an issue of Hobby Japan a couple of weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised at how value you can get from that magazine. I used to think that they'd cost around Php 700 but I found out that you could get an issue for Php 450 from Greattoys and I'm just really enjoying the magazine. I used to buy Fine Scale Modeler, Scale Auto and Aviation Modeler Magazine from Book Sale and to be honest, compared to their US counterparts, Hobby Japan is like 10x better in terms of just the sheer amount of model kit goodness that you get for an issue.  Wow, just wow, I might end up buying an issue every month.

1/144 Turn X

I recall going to Tutuban, back in the days when all the Gundams were on sale at 50% off (by the way, that's where most of my stash came from), and going there just to get this kit. I fell in love with the series Turn A Gundam and their off kilter mechanical designs and to this day this series of kits is the only one that I actually spent time and effort to complete. The Turn X is the main antagonist mech of the series. I love how it is assymetrical and I like the idea that it carries this huge backpack that houses a lot of its weapons. The recently released MG kit of this series translates this concept way better than the old 1/144 kit does but nevertheless, I still like the abstract/art nouveau feel of the whole weapons load out for the Turn X.  I finished this kit more than a year ago but only got around to posting the images on the blog today... I've actually forgotten that I built this and was only reminded of it when a friend of mine c...
