Whoa, what happened?

Image
I can't believe that it has been half a year since my last post. I have to admit, I have been procrastinating a lot on shooting photos and editing the ones that I have taken of the finished kits.                                             I never stopped building, that's one thing that has been consistent with me. Since June I have finished around 4  kits, with one in progress and I've managed to snap build some of the ones from my ever growing backlog. I'm currently experimenting with using quick drying enamels as a substitute for my acrylics but right now this is proving to be more of a headache than a solution. My point is, I've been procrastinating on the photos department and I think its because I've gone tired of editing my shots and I've been struggling with my current photo set-up. I'd like to try a different camera, or maybe just move my gear ...

MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Ver Ka Part 2

Image
I have finally gotten around to posting the second batch of images :)  I haven't been able to work on my kits as much as I had wanted to for the past few weeks because of work. I'm just glad to share that I'm working on illustrating mechs for two toy companies right now and am thankful to God for the opportunities that he has given me.  God bless!

MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Ver Ka Part 1

This MG 1/100 Wing Gundam was a gift that I received from Manay about two birthdays ago. I'm a huge Katoki fan, I like how he juxtaposes shapes in very interesting ways to form the parts of the mech and I love the overabundance of details that he adds to the surfaces of the robot. That being said, this version of the Wing Gundam from Endless Walts is the one I prefer over the "winged" version simply because this one has a more mechanical feel as opposed to the "mystical wing effect" that the one from the Endless Waltz movie has. This kit is painted with lacquers for the broad areas and I used Reeves acrylics to for the detail painting. I used the decals with the kit along with some from my decals pile.  I replaced the dark blue parts of the kit with green as I wanted to at least give the kit a custom paint scheme and I was sort of inspired by the color of Mountain Dew so I went for this lime green thing highlighted wi...

Gunpla Tutorial: Decals, Panel Lines and Weathering

Image
In the previous tutorial I shared with you guys how I paint my kits. In this part, I'll share with you the finishing techniques that I use. In the images above, you will see that the kit is almost finished. The few things that are lacking are the panel lines, the decals and the weathering. You can skip the 3rd step if what you want is a relatively clean build but I wanted to share with you guys my experiments on weathering so I included it here in the tutorial. You will notice that the kit has a gloss finish. This is because I sprayed clear gloss on the parts to protect the paint underneath it from the next steps. This will also prevent silvering on the decals which is caused by air bubbles trapped between the rough surface of a matte finish and the decal on top. This will also help facilitate washes since the thinned paint will not adhere easily to the surface of the kit and will instead flow onto the recesses or panel lines. Also, a glossy surface will be...
