Funko Haul

So my wife and I stumbled upon a Funko event at a mall near our place while we were buying tables and this is what happened :)

When we got home my wife told me that I'm always very happy whenever I get a Pop and this made me think quite a bit.

Funko Pops are a conundrum to me because they are the exact opposite of what I have been collecting for the past 22 years: Gundam and Transformers. While the bulk of my collection, and even the more recent Revoltech and Amazing Heroes are very detailed and poseable, Funko's are very basic and static.

Thing is though, I love collecting them. Even if a lot of my peers in the fandoms that I grew up with hate them with passion.

I guess the accessibility is one thing, I mean, you'd most probably be able to get a Pop of your favorite character once Funko gets a license for it. They look good on a shelf even if the quality control is so poor. I can say that I've never gotten a Pop that I'm really satisfied with the paint application of. From about 3 feet away though they look great so its a pass for me. The eyes I'm a bit torn, I love the simplicity but I think I'd like to detail them up with some stickers just to see for myself if they'd look nice because I've seen people do this and they're awesome.

Plus I'd love to custom paint a Pop one of these days.

I still collect Transformers and Gundam, but since 2021 I've really enjoyed allotting a bigger portion of my toy budget to getting Pops and other anime figures. I find the recent Transformers too expensive for the value and fun that I'm getting out of them and so I've decided to just go and buy what I really want and start hunting the 2nd hand market for the ones that I wasn't able to get when they were first released. With Gundams I've started to focus on getting tools and supplies that would make my building faster as I've really accumulated a lot of kits (in the hundreds I think) and I'd like to focus on building and painting now that I can feel myself getting really old haha!

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've really enjoyed expanding my collection towards my other interests. It feels great to be able to branch out a bit.
